Story behind the song
The kids have a friend affectionately known as "The Prophecy" which I thought was a great title for a song. This is a jazzy, thumping number about figuring it all out!
Lyrics
It wasn’t 2 AM it wasn’t 3 AM or any time I can remember, There was a mist outside and a blinking light and the pain of trying to forget her, And I walked for hours between the towers of insanity, virtue and gin, An inviting light from a noisy pub offered solace and so I went in. There was a cop in drag, an Irish flag, a hippy with an old guitar, Star crossed lovers and 3 drunk cougars and a sign hanging over the bar, It read “Fortunes Told by Delilah the Bold” so I went to a room in the back, There was too much Chanel and even more mascara and a middle aged woman in black. She took my coat and she took a twenty and looked at my palm and started to study, The lines in my hand and the one’s on my face and she read the emotions I couldn’t erase, But then the color suddenly drained from her face as she lost her accent and stood up straight, She said, “I have never seen this before,” and turned to a page in a book by the door. “When two hearts unite in a single beat, there’s a current of passion you cannot defeat” She almost broke then composed herself, wiped a tear and looked me in the eye. And she said “here’s your prophecy, take my hand it’s got so much more than I understand, She said ‘There’s a maiden and love denied and a lonesome warrior trapped outside, You can run to the void where your demons lay and court this disaster another day, Or jump as it all crumbles underfoot and grasp at the branches you thought you could deny. Then I ran out and hailed an idle cab and said “take me back to the three-room flat, Where a princess writing on linen pages tells the story that’s timeless in every age, And he pulled in the drive and cut the lights, collected his fare and said “good night,” And I raised my umbrella and walked away and he said “hold on son, before I drive away…” And he said “there’s your prophecy, take her hand it’s got so much more than you understand, He said ‘There’s a maiden and love denied and a lonesome warrior trapped outside, You can run to the void where your demons lay and court this disaster another day, Or jump as it all crumbles underfoot and grasp at the branches you thought you could deny. As a heartbroken, struggling, storied past took an overdue, terminal final gasp, The door cracked open, she cracked a smile that I hadn’t seen in a thousand miles, And I caught the aroma of distant pain as the light ran out like a lion unchained, And I left the umbrella outside to dry, and the sun slowly began to rise.
